Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for programming, setup and operation of Wire and Conventional EDM (electrical discharge machining), machines as well as "Hole Popper" and other tool room equipment to prepare work pieces as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Study blueprints, sketches, CAD files, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for programming and setup of EDM equipment.
  • Work with tool designer, engineers, and toolmakers to understand the requirements of the part.
  • Manipulate CAD drawings as required to ensure proper cutting of the workpiece
  • Design simple jigs and fixtures using CAD software
  • Use other standard toolroom equipment to modify or create blocks required for machining including Conventional EDM, Hole Poppers, drills, mills, and grinders.
  • Layout and select the appropriate material per part specifications
  • Generate, edit, and load programs for Wire EDM according to machine and work piece specifications
  • Fixture, orient, load, and index work pieces into machine to ensure safe and accurate cutting of the workpiece
  • Set up machine and oversee machine operation as required during machine run
  • Inspect and Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, depth gages, and comparators (standard & digital).
  • Execute all operator level Preventive Maintenance tasks required for the safe and effective operation of the equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and keep work area clean in accordance with specified rules and regulations.
  • Adhere to EMS and IATF 16949 Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to setup, operate, and monitor various Wire and Conventional EDM equipment.
  • Ability to program EDM equipment using Robocut Fapt Cut, Espree, or similar software.
  • Ability to generate simple CAD drawings using AutoCad or similar CAD software
  • Ability to use standard toolroom equipment as required
  • Ability to work effectively with internal/external personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, blueprints, design specifications, correspondence, work orders and production schedules.
  • Knowledge and good understanding of metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys based on properties such as harness and heat tolerance.
  • Knowledge of proper use of fixturing accessories such as vises, v-blocks, angle plates, and clamps.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including use and maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; or graduation from a technical/trade school.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience as an EDM programmer/operator working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to perform simple tasks using standard tool room equipment including surface grinders, mills, and drills
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
  • Must be proficient with computers.
  • Must have good basic math skills and the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must have knowledge of shop math trigonometry.

Specific vision abilities include close vision. Employee may be exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals.
