SEA CORP is seeking a mechanical engineer to work closely with a lead Test & Evaluation (T&E) Manager in Portsmouth, RI beginning October 1, 2017. Tasking will involve analysis of system requirements, development of test plans and procedures, test conduct, and test report generation for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) VDS being developed by Raytheon IDS. In support of test planning, the successful candidate will be involved in the design, development, and production of mechanical testing fixtures which may involve static, dynamic, and/or hydraulic/pneumatic systems. Some testing will be via paper analysis, some in the labs, and some on board Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) platforms.
Candidates must be self-motivated with skills in problem solving, verbal and written interpersonal communication, data analysis, organization, and collaboration. Skills in project management, time management and the ability to work under pressure are desired.
This position will be required to travel an estimated 1-5 times per year, with the frequency and duration of travel to increase over time as systems are developed, delivered, and will need to be tested aboard ships.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 3 years of experience with mechanical systems is required.
The ideal candidate will also have naval shipboard mechanical operations experience and Solidworks or other CAD program expertise along with surface ship Variable Depth Sonar (VDS) systems experience. In lieu of specific VDS experience, related experience in submarine towed array handlers, sonar, or similar mechanical systems may be acceptable.
U.S. citizenship and current DOD Secret clearance are required.
